Gurgaon: Following persistent demands from student unions and college administrations, the state’s higher education department has extended the college admission deadline to Nov 1 to fill more than half of the total available seats that currently remain vacant.Haryana’s decision to extend its admission deadlines follows a familiar pattern. Throughout the 2026–27 cycle alone, officials have revised the schedule multiple times: first in June, then through August and September, and most recently pushing an October 6 deadline out to November 1. The state has frequently relied on similar extensions in past years as well. There is currently no notification about when the academic session post new admissions will start. With 1.44 lakh seats remaining vacant out of a total capacity of 2.81 lakh across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, this initiative offers students a second chance at enrolment. The move ensures that no aspiring student is left behind due to initial application bottlenecks, delayed paperwork, or personal constraints. The seat vacancy crisis cuts deep across all categories of institutions, raising concerns over student enrolment dynamics. In govt-run colleges, only 76,000 of 1.33 lakh sanctioned seats have been filled, leaving a massive gap of 57,000 empty desks, despite the fee being nominal.Govt-aided colleges present an equally worrying picture, reporting only 45,000 admissions against a total capacity of 96,000 seats, leaving 50,000 vacancies unattended. Self-financed or private institutions face the hardest hit of all, securing merely 15,000 enrolments out of 51,000 available seats, leaving a staggering 36,000 seats unfilled.College authorities strongly urge prospective undergraduate and postgraduate students to complete their registration as soon as possible, as this is the final opportunity to secure admission before the portal closes permanently on Nov 1, ahead of an expected surge in traffic on the portal.
