Thane: A 24-year-old recovery agent from Ulhasnagar has been booked for allegedly brutally stabbing his 23-year-old female college friend and her 25-year-old male colleague while they were walking home after work in the busy Khopat area on Friday evening. Luckily, the duo escaped with deep stab injuries, the police said, who suspect the attack was probably triggered out of one-sided love. The incident occurred when the woman, a resident of Kalyan and her colleague, a resident of Diva – both employed in a private company – had left office around 6:45pm near the Cadbury Signal and were headed towards Khopat. The accused who was probably lying in wait for the duo and armed with a sharp object approached them from behind and started stabbing them indiscriminately.Meanwhile, several onlookers gathered at the spot and tried to stop the accused who instead tried to attack them following which the crowd managed to overpower him and hand over to the police before thrashing him.“The male colleague suffered deep stab wounds and was admitted to a nearby private hospital and is currently out of danger while the woman is also recuperating. The accused who has been booked for attempt to murder was also rushed to a govt hospital where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries too,” senior inspector Hemant Patil at Rabodi police station said. The investigating officials hint the incident could have been triggered out of jealousy as the accused who studied in the same college as that of the woman had earlier allegedly proposed marriage to her which she had refused. “The accused may have suspected the woman to be involved with her colleague and could have attacked them in a fit of rage. We are yet to record the statements as the complainant, her friend and the accused are still recuperating,” said the police.
