Rajkot footwear trader loses ₹5.7L in Vietnam import scam

Rajkot: A 33-year-old footwear trader from Rajkot was allegedly duped of Rs 5.7 lakh by a firm that promised to supply 2,500 pairs of ready-made footwear from Vietnam at cheaper rates. The trader paid the amount in five instalments but received neither the consignment nor a refund.A complaint was registered at the Rajkot City Cybercrime police station under section 318(4) of BNS and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act against JTIT Service, individuals linked to the firm, the holder and user of a bank account allegedly used in the fraud, and others who may be identified during the investigation.According to the complaint, Nita Chauhan, who previously operated a footwear business under the name Keyur Enterprise, came across an Instagram advertisement for account-handling services on May 14, 2025. She subsequently contacted a company called JTIT Service, whose representative, identified as Mohit, began managing her Amazon and Flipkart accounts.During their interactions, Mohit learnt about her footwear business and offered to arrange ready-made footwear from Vietnam at lower prices. He allegedly told her that the minimum order value would be Rs 5 lakh and that half the amount had to be paid in advance.Trusting the offer, Chauhan placed an order for 2,500 units of different types of footwear. She was given the bank details of an account in the name of Jayashree Traders at IDFC First Bank to transfer the payments.Transaction records show that she transferred Rs 5.7 lakh in five transactions. However, the consignment never arrived. Chauhan alleged that the people involved kept offering excuses and eventually stopped responding to her calls and messages. Suspecting fraud, she approached the cybercrime helpline on 1930.The complaint further states that after the bank accounts linked to JTIT Service and Jayashree Traders were frozen, the individuals concerned contacted Chauhan and promised to return the money. She initially refrained from pursuing the matter further in the hope of recovering the amount. When the promised refund failed to materialise despite a prolonged wait, Chauhan approached the cybercrime police and lodged a formal complaint.
