Gurgaon: Heavy showers lashed the city on Tuesday, bringing much-needed relief from the heat but triggering widespread waterlogging and traffic snarls across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded 80 mm of rainfall in Gurgaon between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, while the city’s daytime temperature plunged to 28°C, nearly 10°C below normal.The maximum temperature was 3°C lower than Monday’s reading, making Gurgaon one of the coolest places in Haryana during the day. The minimum temperature settled at 25°C, around 2°C below normal, and was the joint lowest in the state along with Bhiwani.According to the IMD, the district observatory in Gurgaon recorded the highest rainfall in Haryana during the period. The automatic weather station at Gurgaon measured 69 mm of rainfall, while NorthCap University AWS recorded 32 mm, indicating widespread showers across different parts of the city.The IMD has forecast partly cloudy skies with thunderstorms and light rain over Haryana over the next five days, keeping temperatures relatively mild. Maximum temperatures are expected to remain between 33°C and 36°C, while minimum temperatures are likely to hover between 26°C and 27°C.The weather department has also issued a yellow alert for Haryana, warning of heavy rain at isolated places on July 8 and July 9. After a brief lull on July 10, another spell of heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely on July 11 and July 12. No weather warning has been issued for July 13. Officials said the continuing monsoon activity is expected to keep daytime temperatures below normal while increasing the possibility of localised waterlogging in vulnerable areas.Meanwhile, in Delhi, the minimum temperature Tuesday rose to 30°C, two degrees above normal, making it the warmest July night in two years.The minimum temperature Monday settled at 27 degrees Celsius. Following the rain, it is likely to dip to 21-23°C Wednesday.The maximum temperature dipped to 37.2°C, one degree above normal, against 38.6°C a day earlier.The Met department has placed a yellow alert for light-to-moderate showers Wednesday and Thursday. Though there are chances of light rain Friday and Saturday, no colour-coded warning has been issued.
