Ludhiana: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday arrested a Class-IV employee posted at the Raikot Tehsil office for allegedly accepting a bribe to facilitate the registration of a disputed property in Ludhiana.The accused Sarabjit Singh alias Bittu, was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 5,000 from a complainant during a trap operation conducted by the Vigilance Bureau, Range Ludhiana.According to the Vigilance Bureau, the action was taken following a complaint by Arminder Singh of New Baba Deep Singh Nagar. In his statement before DSP Shiv Chand, the complainant alleged that his father, Lachhman Singh, had entered into an agreement in 2010 to purchase a 60-square-yard plot in the Cycle Market area and had taken possession of the property.However, in 2020, the family discovered that Gurjit Singh alias Rimpi, a Anti-corruption officials have arrested a government clerk for allegedly accepting a bribe to illegally register a disputed property. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau caught Sarabjit Singh, a Class-IV employee at the Raikot Tehsil revenue office, during a sting operation while he accepted an initial 5,000-rupee payment.The arrest followed a complaint by local resident Arminder Singh, who stated his family had purchased and occupied a 60-square-yard plot in 2010. A decade later, the family discovered a relative had fraudulently registered the land under his own name using forged documents and an incorrect structural registry number.According to investigators, the accused claimed he could leverage his influence within the revenue department to correct the land registry in the family’s favor. He allegedly demanded 350,000 rupees for the service, requesting an immediate 25,000-rupee advance alongside the 5,000-rupee installment.Vigilance Bureau detectives arrested Singh at the scene of the transaction in the presence of official witnesses. Authorities have charged him under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
