Ahmedabad: Customers buying what was labelled as pure ghee at a Chenpur dairy parlour were getting a product containing vegetable fat, according to laboratory tests. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation sealed Shreeji Dairy Parlour after confirming the adulteration.The unit was among four food businesses the civic body sealed on Tuesday. The other establishments faced action over poor hygiene, unsafe cooking oil and expired products.The dairy parlour was sealed after laboratory tests confirmed that ghee being sold as “pure” contained vegetable fat. AMC said selling adulterated food under a false description violated food safety standards and deceived consumers.Majlis Restaurant in Juhapura was also sealed after inspectors found its kitchen unhygienic and unfit for food preparation. The establishment was found to be violating hygiene and sanitation requirements under Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

The department also sealed Rajasthan Dalwada Centre in Isanpur after a laboratory report found that reused cooking oil collected from the unit had total polar compounds (TPC) of 32.1%. FSSAI limit for TPC in used cooking oil is 25%, beyond which the oil cannot be used for preparing food.Shantinath Jain Gruh Udyog in Ranip was sealed after AMC received complaints about selling expired food products. An inspection confirmed expired items at the premises.AMC said food business operators must comply with regulations on food safety, hygiene, shelf life and expiry dates.
