Chandigarh: Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Sunday took a swipe at BJP national president Nitin Nabin for promising to recreate the era of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Punjab, saying the state needed solutions to its pressing problems and not “a rewind of history”.In a statement, Warring said Punjab was grappling with issues such as the farm crisis, unemployment, corruption, the drug menace and rising gangsterism. “We need solutions to these pressing problems and not a rewind of history, which in any case is not possible,” he said.Warring said Nabin was not the first leader to sell “bogus dreams” to Punjab’s people, who, he claimed, were more concerned about their day-to-day challenges.Referring to the BJP’s prospects in Punjab, Warring said that if the formation of a BJP government in the state was a precondition for the Centre to address Punjab’s concerns, the state would have to wait for a long time. He added that the BJP should commit to cooperating with Punjab irrespective of which party formed the government. The Punjab Congress chief also took a dig at the BJP over the presence of several former Congress leaders in the party. “The fact that your current and past state presidents are from the Congress reflects the plight of your organisation that you still have to depend on outsiders and yet claim that you will form the government in Punjab,” he said.
