Chandigarh: Punjab govt informed the assembly on Wednesday that it is procuring additional water coolers, fans, and improving ventilation in state jails to address shortages.Responding to a question raised by Sanour MLA Harmit Singh Pathanmajra during the assembly session, prisons minister Ravjot Singh stated that 183 water coolers are installed in Punjab jails, and a supply order was issued on July 24 to procure 43 more with RO systems.He added that 15,438 ceiling fans are installed in the prisons. Additionally, a tender was published on July 30, 2026, to purchase 5,250 more ceiling fans. Regarding ventilation, the minister noted that exhaust fans have been installed in barracks where required, with individual jails authorized to procure more locally.
