Pune: Two students from Pune have won a collective three medals at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2026.MIT World Peace University second year students Tanisha Koticha and Sayali Wani, pursuing BBA Business Analytics, have set an international flag in their nascent sporting careers. Koticha won the gold medal in mixed doubles and teamed up with Wani to secure bronze in the women’s doubles event in New Delhi.For the two young athletes, a balancing act set the stage. “We would be regularly training and competing at tournaments, while simultaneously ensuring we don’t fall behind on our academics,” both of them said. “We developed our game through consistent competition, with a focus on mastering our technical game. Viabhav Wagh, our mentor and director of sports at the university, encouraged us to apply an aggressive style to be able to compete against players at the international level.”The university felicitated the two players. Rahul V Karad, the executive president, said, “The achievement reflects the efforts of every student who is trying to compete at the global level while accommodating academics as an essential. The medals won by these two students make us feel proud of our university’s commitment to nurturing talented students to compete at the global level. It strengthens our belief and policy in placing equal priority to both education and sports.”Aditi Karad, the executive director added, “We encourage more students to pursue competitive sports alongside academics. It helps build character, which we emphasize on in the university’s sports development policy.”
