Pune: A police sub-inspector, reportedly distressed by a severe health condition, allegedly shot himself with his service pistol at his home in Aundh around 3pm on Wednesday.According to Chatushrungi police, the deceased officer, Nilesh Bhausaheb Patil (55), was posted with the Vishrantwadi police station.“Patil lived with his wife and son in a flat in Aundh. He was supposed to appear at the Bombay high court for a hearing on Wednesday but could not travel due to his poor health,” senior inspector Uttam Bhajnawale of Chatushrungi police told TOI.“Patil’s wife had gone out on Wednesday morning, while his son was in another room. Patil, who was alone in the living room, took his service pistol and shot himself in the head,” the officer said.Hearing the gunshot, Patil’s son rushed into the living room and found his father lying on the sofa with blood oozing from his head.“Patil was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” Bhajnawale said.Chatushrungi police registered an accidental death report later that night.Patil had been on extended leave before the Ganapati festival due to health issues. “He resumed duty but again started feeling dizzy.
