Pune police order Koregaon Park pub to shut down for operating beyond permitted hours

Pune: The Pune city police have initiated action against a pub in Koregaon Park for allegedly operating beyond the permissible hours. The establishment has been directed to remain closed until further orders. An inquiry revealed that the pub continued operating even after 2am, despite being permitted to remain open only until 1.30am. The police initiated action after confirming the violation.Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar ordered the closure of the pub. The police had previously taken action against the same establishment in Jan this year, following which it remained shut for a few days. However, the pub resumed operations a few months later. The operating hours of pubs, bars and restaurants in the city are regulated, with establishments permitted to remain open only until 1.30am. Kumar reportedly received information that the Koregaon Park pub was flouting these rules and directed officials to conduct an inquiry. The probe confirmed that the establishment was operating beyond the stipulated closing time, prompting the police to take action.Interestingly, police marshals had visited the pub at 1.30am to check whether it had closed for the night. The management told them that the establishment had shut down, and the marshals left after verifying the claim. However, it later emerged that the pub had reopened shortly after the marshals left.
