Chandigarh: Amid student unrest at Chitkara University and Lovely Professional University (LPU) following circulation of unverified claims on social media, Panjab University has issued an advisory asking students to not believe or share unverified information concerning incidents on or around the campus.Issued by the dean, University Instruction on Monday, the advisory asks chairpersons, directors and coordinators to communicate the directions to students. It says unverified information circulated through social media and messaging platforms may adversely affect the university’s peaceful and harmonious academic environment.The advisory comes after protests at Chitkara University in Rajpura and LPU in Phagwara. At Chitkara, police said no students were missing and registered a daily diary report following campus violence, while probing possible involvement of outsiders.At LPU, protests followed social media reports about an alleged sexual assault. Police said the claims had not been established and constituted an SIT to investigate. The university suspended regular classes for 10 days and postponed mid-term examinations.PU has asked students to verify information through official university communications, maintain peace and discipline, and not participate in or support unlawful activities. Students have also been advised to report genuine concerns to the concerned chairperson, head of department or appropriate university authority.
