Hyderabad: A Telangana Basketball Association official has been booked under the Pocso Act following allegations that he used abusive and sexually coloured language against a 16-year-old basketball player during tournaments conducted in the city.According to police, the girl’s family lodged a complaint in July at RC Puram police station against the 30-year-old official, alleging that he had used abusive language against the minor during tournaments she participated in over the past two years.Based on the complaint, RC Puram police registered a case under section 75(1)(iv) and sections 11 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for alleged sexual harassment and sexually coloured remarks.The case was subsequently transferred to Madhapur police and re-registered under the same provisions on July 24.“The complainant alleged that the accused had made obscene gestures and sexually coloured remarks against the girl during tournaments. We have issued a notice to the accused and recorded his statement as per law,” Madhapur inspector KV Subba Rao said.Police said further investigation is underway and additional evidence is being collected. Based on the findings of the probe, appropriate legal action will be initiated against the accused.
