Pune: The district rural police last week took custody of the sonography machine supplier, Narendra Raosaheb Thakare of Wagholi, in connection with the illegal sex determination case registered at the Yavat police station.“We arrested Thakare in our case. The Wagholi police had earlier arrested him in a similar case. Thakare had supplied a portable sonography machine to Annasaheb Giri (a suspect in the sex determination case),” said Pune superintendent of police Sandeep Singh Gill.Std XII pass Giri was arrested in May.“Thakare is the third arrest in the case. Apart from Giri, we had earlier arrested a medical practitioner, Atul Ankush Jadhav of Lohegaon-Wagholi Road,” Gill said.“We suspect that Thakare supplied such machines to others in Pune and adjoining districts. Veterinarians use this type of machine to examine and treat animals,” he said.““The suspects involved in the case allegedly carried out several abortions at hospitals across Pune rural, Satara and Ahilyanagar districts since 202. We are searching for two medical practitioners from Bhor. We have identified 13 other medical practitioners in contact with Giri and the other accused. We will question them soon,” Gill said.
