Police team attacked during raid in Mohali village; SI injured, two arrested | Chandigarh News



Mohali: A police team that went to arrest a suspected drug trafficker was attacked by a group of youths in Harlalpur village on Wednesday afternoon in Kharar subdivision, leaving a sub-inspector injured. The incident also triggering tension in the village, prompting police to deploy force to maintain law and order.Kharar DSP Karan Singh Sandhu said, “We have arrested Gurkeerat Singh, resident of Daun village, and Devinder Singh, resident of Allahpur village, charged with injuring a police officer and deterring a public servant in performing his duty. We are also searching for other assailants.” The DSP said sub-inspector Gurvinder is undergoing treatment at a hospital and is said to be out of danger. He said the group of youths hit the police team with stones, and one stone hit the sub-inspector on his forehead. According to information, the incident took place at 2.15 pm when a team from Sadar police station, Kharar, led by sub-inspector Gurvinder Singh, reached the village to conduct a raid in connection with a case under the NDPS Act. The police personnel, who were in uniform, tried to apprehend the accused when they were allegedly confronted by a group of youths. During the operation, the suspects reportedly attacked the police team, resulting in a scuffle in which the sub-inspector sustained a head injury. The uniforms of some police personnel were also torn in the attack. The injured officer was immediately shifted to a hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Despite the attack, police teams managed to arrest two suspects from the spot. A case is being registered against those involved in the assault, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other accused.Police officials have not issued a detailed statement on the incident so far but indicated that the investigation is in progress. They stated that strict action will be taken against all those involved in the attack.
