KURUKSHETRA: A police team was allegedly attacked and assaulted by a group of people while conducting an anti-drug operation in the Gandhi Nagar area of Thanesar, Kurukshetra, on Saturday. The police have warned of strict action against those involved in drug trafficking as well as anyone obstructing anti-drug operations.Krishna Gate police station SHO Inspector Naresh Kumar said no person involved in drug trafficking would be spared and those interfering with police action would also face stringent legal action.According to a complaint filed by ASI Raj Kumar, SWAT team in-charge, Kurukshetra Police, he and his team were present near Valmiki Chowk in Gandhi Nagar for anti-drug action when they received information that a man identified as Deepak was allegedly selling drugs from Gali No. 1, Gandhi Nagar, Thanesar.Acting on the information, the team reached outside Deepak’s house, where a motorcycle was parked. When the policemen questioned people present there about the motorcycle, one person allegedly refused to respond and then became aggressive, abusing and pushing the police personnel.The complaint stated that several other men and women subsequently gathered at the spot and allegedly joined in abusing and assaulting the police team. During the scuffle, a person identified as Vijay allegedly took out a sharp object from his pocket and struck ASI Raj Kumar on the head. Another accused, Mahinder Singh, allegedly slapped and punched him in the stomach and shoulder.The accused, along with others, allegedly threatened the police team with dire consequences and warned them against returning to the area for anti-drug operations.ASI Raj Kumar subsequently received treatment at a government hospital. Police said further legal action was being taken at Krishna Gate police station on the basis of his complaint.
