Amritsar: Eight Sikh men arrested along with jailed Khadoor Sahib MP and Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) chief Amritpal Singh were produced before an Amritsar court on Thursday, where their statements were recorded under Section 313 of the CrPC in the case of the group storming Ajnala police station in Feb 2023.The accused, Harjit Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Kulwant Singh Rauke, Basant Singh Daulatpura, Harmel Singh Yodhe, Balwinder Singh Jangiana, Bhagwant Singh Bajeke and Ishwar Singh, appeared before additional district and sessions judge Parminder Singh.Advocate Shukarguzar Singh, in a statement issued by ADWPD chief spokesperson Shamsher Singh Padhri, said the court recorded the accused’s statements on the charges and evidence against them. Section 313 proceedings provide an opportunity to the accused to explain circumstances appearing in evidence.After the proceedings, the eight were sent back to their respective jails.Shukarguzar said the recording of the statements marked an important stage in the trial and that the proceedings were continuing according to due legal process.
