Police opened fire at notorious offender in Hyderabad
Police shot a notorious property offender, Bhusmi Srikanth, in the leg near Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road late Tuesday (Representative image).

HYDERABAD: Nalgonda police opened fire at a notorious property offender, Bhusmi Srikanth, near Bonguluru Gate on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) of Hyderabad late on Tuesday night when he attacked the police team who tried to arrest him. The accused suffered a bullet injury to his leg and he was shifted to a local hospital for medical treatment. Srikanth, 35, a native of Narsipatnam in Andhra Pradesh is involved in over 30 cases of burglary and robbery. He is wanted by the police of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Nalgonda police of Telangana who want him in about 10 cases, received an alert about the movement of Srikanth recently in Guntur after his fingerprints were found at a burglary case. “Our team tracked his movement from Guntur and Hyderabad on Tuesday night,” Nalgonda SP Sharat Chandra Pawar said. The team spotted Srikanth in a DCM van near Bonguluru gate on the ORR and intercepted the vehicle. However, while being taken into custody, Srikanth tried to escape by attacking police team with a knife and a stick. Head constable Vishnuvardhan Giri sustained a blunt force injury on his head. As Srikanth didn’t heed to their warning to surrender, police opened fired at his legs. “Srikanth sustained a bullet injury to his left leg and collapsed on the road. He was rushed to a hospital in Vanasthalipuram for initial treatment and currently being moved to Nalgonda government hospital. Both Srikanth and the head constable are out of danger,” said a Nalgonda Central Crime Station (CCS) official.
