Shillong: Two masked men hurled petrol bombs at the Meghalaya Pollution Control Board office on Monday, causing damage but no injuries.The attack on the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) office took place between noon and 12:30 p.m. Officials said two places inside the compound were targeted before the attackers fled.“There were two petrol bombs hurled. Investigation to nab the culprits has begun,” superintendent of police (city) Dangsan Khyriem said.A police forensic team collected samples and confirmed that petrol bombs were used. Police are examining CCTV footage and searching for the suspects.MSPCB member secretary GH Chyrmang said the board had no dispute with anyone. He was travelling to Byrnihat for an inspection when he was informed about the attack and immediately returned to the office.Some employees saw the attackers but could not identify them because their faces were covered, he said.“CCTV footage shows that there were two people, but their faces were covered. We have already filed a complaint at the Laitumkhrah police station,” Chyrmang said.The suspects reportedly arrived on separate scooters and entered the office compound to throw the bombs.“One petrol bomb was hurled near the chamber of the senior scientific assistant — thankfully, he escaped unhurt,” a board official said.
