Part number runs into pages, locating names arduous without quick search options

Pune: Many voters on Tuesday faced difficulties in finding their names and the part number in the PDF format of the electoral rolls. Some said they downloaded the entire PDF for their part number, running into as many as 30 pages, to spot their names. Many others said the revision in their part numbers posed challenges.VS Kulkarni from Shivajinagar constituency said his part number was changed in the draft electoral roll published on Monday. “I looked for my name with the earlier part number. After repeated attempts, I found it in the list with a changed part number. Why were the part numbers were changed?” he said.Senior citizens may face issues while searching names online because they are not well-versed with it, he added. “The district administration must make available the hard copy of the draft rolls at every polling station to enable them to check names,” Kulkarni said.Senior citizen Rama Rao said the online search process was time consuming where entering the captcha and other details were not easy for people like him.Ajay Darwatkar from Nagar Road area said, “Why does the system ask for a captcha every time? Senior citizens and those accessing details on their cellphones won’t find it friendly to use. The entire process takes time as voters have to click on various windows such as the state, EPIC number and language to complete the process. If EPIC details are not available off-hand, the process asks for many details, including birthdate and age.Election Commission of India has published the voters’ list for all 11 Pune urban constituencies. Bhosari has the highest number of voters and Shivajinagar, the least. Over 13.32 lakh names have been listed for hearings.Vijay Mehta, a voter from the Shivajinagar area, said his name is in the draft list but with wrong details. Mehta said his age was wrong and he will have to file Form 8 for correction. A Kondhwa voter said the draft roll has vague address like just D302 without mentioning a society or an area.
