New Delhi: The Delhi Parents Association (DPA) Monday voiced its concern over construction work and excavated roads around three schools in Delhi Cantonment, alleging that the conditions posed safety risks to students.The association said it had submitted a representation to the authorities, seeking time-bound intervention. According to DPA, excavation and construction around KV No. 2 and two nearby schools have made some stretches of roads uneven, with stones and construction debris lying on the routes used by students. Photographs showed the hazardous conditions that children face while going to school.DPA clarified that it was not opposed to the construction work but wanted safe access to the schools. It sought a site inspection within 48 hours, safe pedestrian routes, proper barricading and warning signs, and regulation of construction during school arrival and dispersal hours.The association also sought accountability for any lapses in safety planning or coordination, directions to agencies to implement child safety measures and a detailed action-taken report within seven working days.“Development cannot come at the cost of children’s safety. Preventive safety must be ensured before an accident occurs, not after a child gets injured,” DPA said.
