Patiala: Seeking to streamline fish trade in the city, District Planning Committee chairperson Tejinder Mehta on Wednesday urged the district administration and municipal corporation to shift all fish markets operating across Patiala to the Punjab govt’s newly developed fish market at Ghalori village.In separate communications to the corporation commissioner and the deputy commissioner, Mehta sought legal and administrative action to ensure that fish vendors functioning from different parts of the city relocate to the designated market. He said the move would help make the govt-developed facility fully operational while improving sanitation, public health, traffic management and urban planning.Mehta said the new fish market, established in the larger public interest, did not achieve its intended purpose as fish trade continued to remain scattered across the city. He said traders who purchased shops in the new market repeatedly represented that the facility would not attract adequate customers unless all fish trading activities were consolidated at one location.Referring to an inter-departmental meeting held on June 11, under the chairmanship of the municipal corporation commissioner, Mehta said officials of the corporation, Punjab Mandi Board, fisheries department and the market committee agreed that fish vendors operating from various locations should be shifted to the new market in accordance with allotment conditions and applicable legal provisions.He also said the district mandi officer already issued directions in this regard, while the market committee served notices to shop allottees as part of the implementation process.Mehta urged the authorities to enforce the June 11 decisions through joint efforts by the concerned departments. He also requested govt departments, institutions and organisations on whose land fish trade was being carried out to initiate action within their respective jurisdictions to discontinue such activity outside the designated fish market.MSID:: 132558768 413 |
