Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday appealed to the state govt to set up dedicated anti-murder squads in the three police commissionerate limits of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri.He also appealed to the youngsters to stay away from drugs and alcohol, offering to personally help addicts and their families access de-addiction centres. “We will also extend legal assistance in narcotics cases,” he said.Addressing a public meeting at Darussalam, he expressed concern over increasing cases of murders in the city. He proposed each squad be headed by an ACP with two inspectors, a sub-inspector and 15 constables, handling cases from investigation through to chargesheet, with a designated public prosecutor to ensure trials and punishment is given within a year.“I had made this representation to the govt earlier too and would repeat it. Murders committed over political rivalry or coalition ambitions had become the height of shamelessness. The CM should go to the CJI seeking an efficient public prosecutor. When a city is being promoted globally for investments, a clear message needs to be sent that it is safe from such crimes,” he said.On the drugs menace, he said, “MDMA is priced at ₹8,000 per gram, cocaine at ₹10,000 per gram, LSD, ecstasy pills at ₹2,000 each, and cannabis variants such as “potion grass” or OG are being brought in from Thailand. Even cough syrups are being misused, with young people consuming it to get high.” Owaisi alleged that a police officer had told him that some minors were using artificial intelligence tools to forge doctors’ prescriptions to buy cough syrup and other medicines from pharmacies.The AIMIM chief shared his own experience of quitting smoking after marriage and, later, giving up hookah on the advice of a religious mentor. He urged young men and women struggling with addiction to come to him directly, promising confidentiality and help in securing legal relief, including in cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.The AIMIM MP said the residents must participate in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. “Those who receive notices should attend their hearings or send a representative with proof of documents in case of anomalies, spelling or age mistakes. Residents whose names are missing from the draft roll can submit Form 6. The AIMIM office at Darussalam remains open to help residents with the SIR’s post-notices process,” he said.
