Gurgaon: The town and country planning department on Wednesday carried out a demolition drive in Greenwood City, Sector 45, and removed four illegal walls erected on internal roads connecting the licensed colony with an HSVP-plotted area in the same sector.Officials said the walls had obstructed the flow of rainwater, causing waterlogging in the adjoining HSVP layout. With the passages blocked, there was no proper egress for accumulated rainwater, aggravating the problem during the monsoon.District Town Planner (enforcement) Amit Madholia said the walls were creating obstructions on roads and preventing rainwater from flowing out of the HSVP-plotted area. “There is no provision or guideline for erecting such walls on the boundary of a licensed plotted residential layout. Four such blockages were removed during the drive,” he said.A resident said the removal of the walls would help restore access and improve the movement of rainwater between the two layouts. “These blockages had become a major problem during heavy rain. Removing them should ensure that water does not remain trapped in the adjoining area,” the resident said.The department also removed an illegal obstruction at an entry point on the service road along the metro corridor. Officials said the entry had allegedly been blocked by the owner of an illegal guest house at A-191, Greenwood City.Madholia said action against the unauthorised guest house would be initiated after completion of the prescribed legal process.The drive comes amid continuing concerns over waterlogging in Gurgaon, with authorities examining obstructions to drainage routes and access roads as part of efforts to improve the movement and discharge of monsoon rainwater.
