Over 160 students take part in Young Indians Parliament

Times News NetworkGuwahati: The two-day Young Indians Parliament (YiP) 2026 concluded here on Saturday, with more than 160 students taking part in a simulation of parliamentary proceedings and democratic governance.The programme was organised jointly by Young Indians (Yi), Guwahati chapter, and the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB). Assam assembly speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass attended the valedictory session.The concluding day began with Question Hour, during which students playing the roles of MPs questioned student ministers and the student Prime Minister on policy and governance issues. The session included supplementary questions, ministerial replies and structured debates modelled on parliamentary procedure.Participants discussed issues such as the impact of artificial intelligence on education and employment, Digital India, strengthening domestic manufacturing under Make in India, infrastructure and connectivity in the northeast, development projects in the region, internal security and external affairs.“The two-day programme provided participants with invaluable firsthand exposure to the functioning of India’s parliamentary democracy by enabling them to debate public policy, question the government, defend their positions and engage in informed democratic discourse,” stated a media release. At the conclusion of the event, 25 students were selected to represent in the regional round.
