Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Police will deploy more than one lakh personnel to maintain law and order during the upcoming 2026 civic body and local self-govt elections, officials said on Tuesday.The deployment plan was finalised during a video conference chaired by DGP K L N Rao, with police commissioners, district police chiefs and range officers across the state. The meeting focused on security arrangements and the allocation of forces.According to officials, 59,525 Home Guards and GRD personnel, along with 41,383 additional forces, will be deployed across polling areas. The elections will cover 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, bypolls in 13 municipalities, 34 district panchayats, and 260 taluka panchayat seats.Police said the objective was to ensure that the elections are conducted in a peaceful and fair manner. Instructions have been issued to intensify patrolling in sensitive areas and maintain continuous monitoring of the law and order situation.Officials were also directed to strengthen security at inter-district and state borders to regulate movement during the election period. Police units have been asked to ensure uninterrupted communication systems.The state police said the deployment was aimed at ensuring smooth and orderly polling across Gujarat.
