Over 1 lakh kids vaccinated as polio drive begins in Ludhiana
According to health department data, 1,01,571 children were vaccinated on day one.

Ludhiana: Over one lakh children up to five years of age received oral polio drops on the first day of the National Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign across Ludhiana district on Sunday. Civil surgeon Dr Ramandeep Kaur and district immunisation officer Dr Harpreet Singh launched the drive at the civil hospital.According to health department data, 1,01,571 children were vaccinated on day one. Following the initial booth-based distribution, specialised health teams will now conduct intensive house-to-house visits in rural, urban, and peri-urban areas to vaccinate children who missed the booths.Dr Ramandeep Kaur emphasised that the oral vaccine remains the department’s highest priority. She stated that every child under five must receive the drops, even if they are already up to date with their routine immunisation programme schedule.The civil surgeon appealed to all parents to cooperate fully with the visiting health teams to ensure no eligible child is missed. She also thanked the parents, vaccination teams, supervisors, Asha workers, Anganwadi workers, and volunteers for their dedication to keeping India polio-free.Dr Harpreet Singh reiterated the department’s commitment to achieving 100% coverage across the district through the upcoming door-to-door phase.
