Gurgaon: More than 100 families in Sector 57 have been facing severe water shortage for the past two months, with many households relying on private water tankers to meet their daily needs. It has been four months since a new water pipeline was laid in the area, but the delay in connecting it to the underground reservoir (UGR) has prevented any improvement in supply.Residents said Sector 57 has witnessed rapid growth over the years, but the water infrastructure has not kept pace with it. “The water supply system in Sector 57 was designed more than two decades ago. Today, the population has multiplied, but the infrastructure remains the same. Several pockets located at the tail end of the distribution network receive inadequate supply because of low pressure,” said Bhagat Ram Ghanghas, a resident of Sector 57.“The issue affects daily routines, with residents having to plan their work, children’s school schedules and other household activities around tanker deliveries,” Ghanghas said.President of Sector 57 RWA, Roshan Lal Yadav, said, “We urge authorities to immediately connect the new pipeline to the UGR or allow us to have a borewell.”Another resident, Azad Singh Jangra, said the dependence on tankers has become a financial burden. “Residents are forced to arrange private tankers. During peak summer months, demand rises sharply, and so do tanker costs. Earlier, a tanker cost Rs 1,000; now it costs Rs 1,200, sometimes Rs 1,500. Water is a necessity, and people should not have to struggle for it every day,” he said.Meanwhile, Sandeep Sihag, executive engineer of MCG, said, “I will check the matter, and the needful will be done to address the problem.”
