Gandhinagar: BJP MP from Anand, Mitesh Patel, stirred controversy by stating that even if a single opposition candidate wins from Anklav in the local body elections, he or she will not receive any funds from his local area development grant. The Congress reacted by saying that the people will give a befitting reply to Patel.“There is no doubt that we will sweep all the seats in Anklav, but even if they (the opposition) win a single seat, we will not give even a single rupee in grants. I am announcing this from the stage — we will not give him or her a single rupee,” Patel said at an election rally in Anklav on Monday, where deputy chief minister Harsh Sanghavi was also present.Reacting to the statement, Gujarat Congress president Amit Chavda, who represents the Anklav assembly constituency, said on Tuesday, “An arrogant BJP MP has made an unacceptable statement that no grants will be given to the whole of Anklav if even a single opposition candidate wins. This amounts to threatening voters. The people of Anklav will give a befitting reply to such arrogant leaders.”
