Bengaluru: For those treating Bengaluru’s roadsides, vacant sites and public spaces as dumping grounds, the watch is about to get tougher! Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) has doubled its ‘Prahari’ surveillance fleet to four vehicles, turning up the heat on illegal dumping of solid waste and construction and demolition (C&D) debris across the city.The two newly procured Prahari vehicles, launched by BNCC Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar on Saturday, will join the existing two vehicles. All four will now patrol the BNCC limits round the clock in two shifts, with a special focus on garbage vulnerable points (GVPs), black spots, major roads, markets, vacant sites and other public spaces.Equipped with GPS-enabled front and rear dash cameras, the vehicles are designed to catch violators in the act. Every violation detected during patrol will be documented through photographs and videos, along with the exact time and GPS location. “If illegal dumping of waste or C&D waste in public places is detected, the person, organisation or vehicle responsible will be identified using the visual evidence and location details. Strict action, including penalties, will follow as per the rules,” officials said.The system is also designed to prevent a familiar cycle — clean a black spot today, only to see it turn into a dumping ground again tomorrow. Prahari vehicles will maintain continuous surveillance at vulnerable points that have already been identified and cleaned, ensuring they do not relapse into dumping locations.Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar said the Corporation would not tolerate illegal dumping under any circumstances. “Illegal dumping of waste and construction debris in public places, roadside areas, vacant sites or black spots will not be tolerated under any circumstances. We have also strengthened our surveillance system with a total of four Prahari vehicles operating 24×7. Violations will be recorded through GPS-enabled dash cameras. People should not assume that they can dump waste and get away without being noticed. Strict action will be taken against those violating the rules,” he said.The Corporation’s Control Room and senior officials will track the GPS location, movement and operations of all four vehicles through an app-based Remote Access system. Photographs, videos and GPS data will be reviewed daily by the Control Room and IT team, with officials monitoring violations and the action taken. The Prahari fleet will have 24 personnel, including drivers and marshals, deployed for its operations.
