Hyderabad: National Highway 65, one of Telangana’s busiest routes, recorded 1,661 accidents with 354 deaths in 341 fatal accidents across six districts in the state between Jan and Sept 2025, as per the records of Telangana Police.According to the data, Rachakonda (now Malkajigiri) Police Commissionerate recorded the highest number of accidents, with 580 cases, accounting for more than a third of all accidents reported along the highway during the period. The commissionerate, through which 53km of this highway passes, reported 81 fatal accidents, 385 non-fatal accidents and 114 accidents that caused no injuries. As many as 531 people were injured, the highest among the six districts.The other districts include Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Sangareddy, Nalgonda and Suryapet. The length of the highway that passes through these districts is 317 km.Sangareddy recorded the highest number of deaths. It reported 100 fatalities in 96 fatal accidents, despite recording only 294 accidents overall. The figures indicate that accidents on the Sangareddy stretch are more likely to have fatal outcomes. Rachakonda followed with 84 deaths from 81 fatal accidents.Cyberabad reported 302 accidents, including 50 fatal accidents, resulting in 50 deaths and 277 injuries. Suryapet recorded 174 accidents, of which 52 were fatal, leaving 53 people dead and 228 injured.Hyderabad recorded 190 accidents, including 16 fatal ones, resulting in 17 deaths and 163 injuries. Nalgonda reported the fewest accidents among the six districts, with 121 cases, but recorded 50 deaths from 46 fatal accidents. The district also reported 86 injuries.Together, Rachakonda and Sangareddy accounted for 184 alone of the 354 deaths recorded on NH-65, or more than half of the fatalities during the nine-month period.Sangareddy recorded 16 more deaths than Rachakonda, even though the latter had nearly twice as many accidents.According to data, rash and negligent driving and over-speeding were the main causes of accidents on this highway. Rash and negligent driving was recorded as the cause in 819 cases, while over-speeding was responsible for 751 accidents. Together, the two accounted for most of the recorded causes of accidents.Rachakonda reported the highest number of cases in both categories, with 278 accidents linked to over-speeding and 273 to rash and negligent driving. This is in line with the district also recording the highest number of accidents on the highway.Sangareddy was different. It recorded 161 cases of rash and negligent driving, higher than the 127 cases linked to over-speeding. The district also had the highest death toll (100) on NH65, despite recording fewer accidents than Rachakonda.Other causes of accidents are wrong-side driving which recorded 65 cases, while drunk driving accounted for 25 cases across the six districts. Only one accident due to red-light jumping was recorded in Rachakonda.
