Chandigarh: The municipal corporation is set to introduce standardised, colour-coded carts for the city’s registered street vendors under a financial cost-sharing model.Designed to meet specific trade requirements, the customised carts feature built-in weather sheds and dedicated storage space. The Town Vending Committee (TVC) will consider the proposal for formal approval on Oct 28.The cart specifications and overall layout have been forwarded to the Chandigarh administration’s urban planning department following recommendations from a dedicated subcommittee. The subcommittee evaluated vendor zones while incorporating feedback from trade unions, market welfare associations, and resident welfare groups. The initiative on the TVC agenda aims to “ensure uniformity, proper appearance and orderly development of vending zones and to provide protection from weather conditions.” The chief architect and municipal architect have developed design presentations for committee evaluation.Separately, the municipal engineering department has drafted a ₹2.6 crore estimate to construct model vending zones and install lighting across multiple locations, including Ramdarbar, Bapudham, Raipur Kalan, Manimajra, and sectors 26, 45, and 52.
