GoaMiles-local cabbies clash in Calangute

Calangute: Gangs of locals on two-wheelers have allegedly started attacking cabbies on GoaMiles when they are parked in the Calangute-Baga-Anjuna-Vagator tourism belt. A video of one such assault late on Friday night has been handed over to Calangute police along with a complaint.GoaMiles cabbies on Friday night claimed that local taxi owners in the Calangute-Candolim belt have been attacking them for plying their taxis in the area.“On Friday night, one of our taxis was parked near the petrol pump close to Dolphin circle and suddenly these people started assaulting him, saying that they will never allow outside taxis. There is a bike gang. They come and threaten taxis parked on the roadside,” said a GoaMiles cabby outside Calangute police station.“We’re also Goans. We should also be allowed to do our business. We are not interfering with them. But they come and assault us, drag our guests out, abuse them and take videos and put them on social media, spoiling their name because a lot of people watch these videos. If our govt wants tourists to come to Goa, then they must take action against these gangs,” the cabbies said.Calangute police said they are investigating the matter.
