Bengaluru: North and east Bengaluru — the wide arc which hosts Manyata Tech Park–Hoodi corridor — will soon get relief from frequent power outages with Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation (KPTCL) commissioning a 12-km-long 220 kV multi-circuit transmission line. The stretch has witnessed a sharp increase in electricity consumption since the area has multinational companies, technology and business parks, large apartment complexes and rapidly expanding residential layouts. The additional capacity is expected to provide the grid with greater flexibility to handle further growth in electricity demand.According to KPTCL officials, executing the project was a major engineering challenge since the corridor passes through a densely developed urban landscape, with limited space, busy roads, existing power lines and other infrastructure leaving little room for construction activity.Ram Prasath Manohar, managing director of KPTCL, said the project demonstrated the importance of developing engineering solutions suited to Bengaluru’s constrained urban environment. KPTCL said the project was completed through planning, safety measures and coordination between multiple teams.Energy minister KJ George said power demand in Bengaluru is continuously increasing, and the transmission infrastructure must be strengthened accordingly. “Every transmission project in an urban area requires a solution based on local conditions, technical feasibility and future system requirements. KPTCL has successfully addressed the challenges associated with this project,” he added.
KPTCL has commissioned a 12-km-long 220 kV multi-circuit transmission line to strengthen Bengaluru’s power grid and ease overloading and tripping along the high-demand Manyata Tech Park–Hoodi corridor.
