Navi Mumbai: In a first, two rescued from sea at Kashid beach using robotic watercraft

Navi Mumbai: Two men from Dombivli were safely rescued using robotic watercraft at the Kashid beach in Murud taluka on April 29. The two had entered the sea but were drowning when the robotic buoy was pressed into service. This is the first such successful operation after three robotic watercrafts were deployed at Nagaon, Kashid and Harihareshwar beaches in Raigad. The remote operated buoy was sent into the sea for search and rescue operation. The speeding watercraft reached them within a minute and pulled them out of the seawater. The successful rescue operation was proven right at the time of need.The two have been identified as Furkan Shaikh (28) and Kaif Shaik (22). Both were unaware about the depth of water level and were dragged away by a series of waves. A constable on duty and a lifeguard, Shivam Lad, immediately acted upon to save the two lives. The robotic buoy was handed over to the local administration on April 12 this year following drowning incidents.
