Varanasi: The DBT-Interdisciplinary School of Life Sciences, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University, established with support of the department of biotechnology, has announced launch of a new M Sc Life Sciences programme from academic session 2026–27. According to the BHU spokesperson, the programme has been designed as a multidisciplinary and research-oriented postgraduate course that integrates diverse areas of life sciences including botany, zoology, biochemistry, biotechnology, microbiology and computational biology. The curriculum aims to provide students with a systems-level understanding of biological sciences while preparing them to address contemporary challenges in human health, agriculture, environment, and biotechnology.The two-year programme comprises four semesters and offers a strong blend of classroom learning, laboratory training, field exposure, research methodology, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence applications in biology and dissertation-based research. Students will have access to state-of-the-art facilities including HPLC, LC-MS, real-time PCR, confocal microscopy, cryomicrotomy, and advanced fluorescence microscopy. Admission to the programme will be based on CUET-PG scores, followed by counselling through BHU as per university regulations. Graduates from Life Sciences and allied biological disciplines are eligible to apply. The curriculum has been developed in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and emphasises interdisciplinary learning, critical thinking, innovation, ethics and research excellence. The programme is also designed to prepare students for higher studies, research careers, biotechnology industries, healthcare sectors and national competitive examinations such as CSIR-UGC NET, GATE, ICMR-JRF and other research fellowships.Interested candidates may register for CUET-PG and apply for admission.
