Gurgaon: An FIR was registered on Wednesday after the mother of a 17-year-old boy who allegedly died following consumption of aluminium phosphide (Sulphas) told police that the poisonous substance had been sold to him online without the required verification. She accused the seller and the e-commerce platform of violating legal requirements and facilitating her son’s death.The boy, Yuvy, a resident of Tikli village, had died on April 28. Yuvy had appeared for his Class 12 examinations. His mother, Anuradha, alleged that he had ordered Sulphas through an online shopping site on April 11. The product was allegedly sold by a Gujarat-based agro company.Anuradha told police that she checked her son’s mobile phone after his death and found the order details. She alleged that the substance had been sold to him without verifying his identity or intended use. She also accused officials and employees of the online platform and the agro company of violating legal provisions and sought action against those responsible.Based on her complaint and documents submitted by her, including the invoice for the product, a case was registered under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 286 (negligent conduct with respect to poisonous substances) of BNS at Badshahpur police station on Aug 19. No arrests have been made and the investigation is underway, police said.Aluminium phosphide is a registered insecticide under the Insecticides Act, 1968, and its manufacture, sale and distribution are regulated. Insecticides may be sold or distributed only through licensed channels and subject to statutory requirements. The use of aluminium phosphide for fumigation and pest-control operations is also governed by specific regulatory conditions, with certain operations permitted only through licensed operators or authorised agencies.Police had earlier started inquest proceedings under Section 194 of BNSS following Yuvy’s death after his father lodged a report.Police said Yuvy’s viscera and blood samples were sent to the forensic science laboratory in Bhondsi for examination and the reports are awaited. The investigation will establish how the substance was sold, whether the seller complied with applicable licensing and sale requirements, and the circumstances surrounding Yuvy’s death, police added.
