Ludhiana: Ludhiana has already lost 12 lives in the Vrindavan boat tragedy, and a 55-year-old Jagraon resident, Rekha Jain, continues to battle for survival after falling into the Yamuna river. According to her family, her vital organs have been affected following the incident. Rekha had travelled to Vrindavan along with her son, Shawet Jain, as part of a group. Both were on the boat that capsized in the Yamuna. While Shawet sustained injuries, his mother’s condition is described as critical by doctors. On Monday evening, Shawet went live on his Facebook account seeking urgent assistance. In the video, he showed his mother lying on a stretcher with an oxygen mask and said she had been referred from a hospital in Vrindavan to PGI, Chandigarh. He alleged that no one attended to his mother at PGI and claimed he tried contacting the SDM of Jagraon but did not receive a response. After the boat accident, Rekha was admitted to the Ramkrishna Mission Charitable Hospital in Vrindavan, from where she was referred to PGI, Chandigarh. He said since his mother was not being attended to at PGI, he decided to move her to a private hospital in Chandigarh. By Tuesday, the district administration contacted Shawet and asked him to bring his mother to Ludhiana.
