Gurgaon: A BJP functionary from Nuh received a call demanding Rs 5 crore and threatening to kill him and his family if the money was not paid within two days. The caller claimed to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi and Rohit Godara gangs, said BJP state executive member and former chairman Zahid Hussain, who approached Nuh SP Dr Arpit Jain for protection.On Monday, a case was registered at Nuh City police station under sections 308(4) (extortion) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of BNS in connection with the threat. According to the complaint, Hussain received the call from a mobile number at 8.15pm on Sunday. “The caller identified himself as a member of the Godara and Lawrence Bishnoi gangs and told Hussain that he was a senior BJP functionary and should pay Rs 5 crore within two days if he valued his life and that of his children,” a police officer said.The caller also claimed to have information about Hussain and his family and said his “boss” wanted to speak to him. When Hussain refused to be intimidated and said he was not afraid of death, the caller disconnected, Hussain told reporters on Tuesday.Around five minutes later, the same number was used to call him again. Hussain said the caller sought a “yes-or-no” answer on whether he would pay the money and again threatened him with serious consequences if he refused. According to police sources, the call came from Uttar Pradesh and teams are trying to trace the caller. In his complaint to the SP, Hussain sought security for himself and his family and strict action against those behind the threat.Police are examining the mobile number and the calls to establish the identity and location of the caller. Investigators are checking whether the caller has any actual connection with the gangs whose names were invoked during the threat or whether their names were used to intimidate Hussain and make the extortion demand appear credible.
