Dimapur: A mock civil defence drill titled “Operation Night Guard- Civil Defence Air Raid/Blackout Exercise” was conducted across key locations in Mokokchung on Thursday night to test emergency preparedness. The exercise began at 6.30pm and assessed the town’s emergency alert systems, inter-agency coordination and public response under simulated high-pressure conditions. The drill was initiated after a simulated report of an incoming air raid from RCDC Jorhat Air Force 10 Wing and the SEOC Kohima.Following the alert, the District Emergency Operations Centre (DEOC) activated sirens through fire and emergency services. The power department simultaneously implemented a 15-minute temporary blackout as part of the air raid simulation.During the blackout, Mokokchung deputy commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma called command staff to the DEOC, including the SP, ADC, SDO (C) Hq, EAC (DDMA Cell), DPRO, OC wireless and DPA, to manage the simulated situation. The exercise ended with a debriefing session. Sr SP Vesupra Kezo shared observations on the technical execution, while DC Verma stressed the importance of such drills for community safety and resilience during unforeseen emergencies.
