Mohali: With stray cattle and dogs continuing to trigger accidents, disrupt traffic and spark public complaints, the Mohali municipal corporation (MC) is drawing up a comprehensive policy that will, for the first time, seek to hold dairy owners accountable for abandoning cattle and allowing them to roam on city roads.The proposal, expected to be placed before the next House meeting, comes amid mounting concern over the growing stray animal menace on key stretches such as Airport Road and Kharar-Landran Road, where cattle frequently wander onto carriageways, posing a risk to motorists.Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana said the MC plans to redesign the existing mechanism for catching stray animals, introduce stricter guidelines for contractors and create a legal framework to act against dairy owners who abandon unproductive cattle.The move assumes significance as the city’s gaushala is already operating beyond capacity, while civic officials also face the challenge of cattle straying into Mohali from neighbouring Chandigarh, complicating enforcement efforts.
