Aizawl: The Mizo National Front (MNF), Mizoram’s main opposition party, on Friday reiterated its opposition to the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, and accused the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) govt of mishandling key issues, including the Mizo Taxi App, implementation of the RTI Act and declining GST collections.Addressing a meeting at the party’s Mizo Hnam Run in Aizawl, MNF general secretary J Malsawmzuala Vanchhawng said the party will continue to defend the interests of the Mizo people and the Christian community.Malsawmzuala said MNF will “firmly oppose” the proposed FCRA amendment, claiming that churches were also against the changes. Referring to the all-party meeting convened on July 7 to discuss the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, he said MNF had urged that the FCRA amendment be included in the agenda and that all parties jointly oppose it.Criticising the Mizo Taxi App, he said the govt could not follow an “implement first and correct mistakes later” approach when public safety and the livelihood of thousands were at stake. He alleged that the platform had been rolled out without adequate planning, leaving ordinary citizens and taxi drivers to face the consequences. Policies affecting public safety and livelihoods, he said, should be carefully planned instead of being implemented on a trial-and-error basis.Malsawmzuala also claimed that Mizoram’s GST collections had declined every year under the ZPM government due to flawed contracting practices and the “excessive use of restricted tenders”.Citing official figures, he said GST collections fell from Rs 970 crore in 2023-24 to Rs 937 crore in 2024-25 and further to Rs 931 crore in 2025-26.
