Aizawl: The Mizoram govt has announced its decision to constitute an MPSC Reform Committee to examine issues concerning the functioning of the Mizoram Public Service Commission (MPSC), a senior official said on Wednesday.Udit Prakash Rai, secretary of the state department of personnel and administrative reforms (DP&AR), announced the decision at a meeting with leaders of the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) or Mizo apex student body, representatives of students affected by problems at the commission.The meeting, chaired by Rai at the chief secretary’s conference room, was also attended by MPSC representatives.Rai said the proposal to constitute the MPSC Reform Committee had been brought to the notice of chief minister Lalduhoma and was awaiting his final approval.MZP leaders and and representatives of students who had faced difficulties with the MPSC welcomed the talks with govt officials. The meeting followed a two-day peaceful protest by the student body and a three-day blockade that prevented commission employees from entering the MPSC officeThe MZP, however, said it would resume picketing outside the MPSC office from 9am on Thursday unless the govt issues a formal order notifying the constitution of the MPSC Reform Committee.The student body has been demanding reforms in the commission’s functioning, including the scrapping of the One-Time Registration (OTR) system, amid allegations of irregularities and concerns raised by job aspirants.
