Aizawl: Mizoram has entered a new chapter in cardiac care with the successful completion of its first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedure at a private hospital in Aizawl on Sunday, sources said.The procedure involved replacing a patient’s aortic valve through an artery without the need for an open-heart surgery. TAVI is regarded as a major advancement in modern cardiology and is currently available in only a limited number of hospitals across northeast India. Mizoram has now joined the region’s select centres capable of performing the procedure.The valve replacement was carried out by Dr Vanlalmalsawmdawngliana and his team under the guidance of cardiologist Dr Dilip Kumar. The team said the procedure was completed successfully, marking a significant step forward for cardiac care and medical services in Mizoram.
