Silchar: A missing BJP booth president was found dead in an abandoned house near the Assam-Tripura border on Friday.Bikash Dhar (52), a social worker from Chhagalmowa village under Bazaricherra police station in Sribhumi district, had multiple injury marks on his body, police said.Six people were arrested from Sribhumi and Tripura in connection with the alleged murder. One accused, Abdul Haque, was shot in the leg after he allegedly assaulted police personnel and attempted to escape custody, police sources said. He was apprehended and admitted to a hospital.Dhar left home on his motorcycle after receiving a phone call on Wednesday afternoon. When he failed to return and his phone was found switched off, his family filed a missing-person complaint.Acting on a tip-off, police recovered his body on Friday morning from an abandoned house at Jogichherra in Loairpoa gram panchayat. Sribhumi SP Leena Doley visited the spot. The body was sent to Sribhumi Civil Hospital for an autopsy.Police suspect an old dispute may have led to the killing, but the motive and roles of the accused are yet to be established.The recovery sparked anger in Bazaricherra and Chhagalmowa, with residents taking to the streets carrying sticks. Allegations of vandalism and arson at shops and houses also surfaced, prompting increased security. Police have not attributed the violence to any community and are investigating the incidents separately.State minister and local MLA Krishnendu Paul visited Dhar’s family on Thursday and urged authorities to trace him.
