Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday directed officials to plan water sports and adventure activities at Mir Alam Tank and develop the historic water body into a major family tourism and entertainment destination.During a surprise inspection of the tank, the CM reviewed the ongoing development works, including the construction of an iconic suspension bridge across the water body. Officials made a photo presentation on the progress of the project, and Revanth Reddy directed them to complete the works within the stipulated deadline.The Mir Alam Tank development is being undertaken by the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd (MRDCL). A comprehensive plan focuses on three major components, including rejuvenation of the tank, development of its surroundings and islands, and construction of the iconic bridge.Revanth Reddy said the project could transform Mir Alam Tank into a major tourism destination, attracting visitors from across the city and beyond. The vision is to create a destination where families can spend an entire day enjoying nature, recreation, entertainment, water sports and relaxation.The CM directed officials to prevent sewage from entering the tank and improve water quality. He also asked them to widen nalas to ensure the smooth flow of floodwater from the tank into the Musi River.Officials informed him that work on the suspension bridge had reached about 50% completion. Of the targeted 544 piles, 273 have been completed, while 28 of the 62 pile caps and six of the 62 pier-cum-pier caps have also been completed.Water sports plannedThe CM asked officials to prepare plans for boating, water sports and adventure activities while complying with technical, environmental and safety standards. Officials are also examining proposals for food courts, green parks, relaxation zones and family entertainment facilities.Special play areas and activity centres for children, along with walking paths and pedestrian-friendly public spaces, are also planned. Connectivity and access to the destination will be improved.Islands to get makeoverRevanth Reddy also directed officials to develop the islands in Mir Alam Tank. They were asked to explore nature-based leisure facilities, glamping and other tourism activities, besides examining the possibility of developing wedding and event destinations.The govt plans to encourage private participation through the PPP model to create quality tourism and entertainment facilities and generate employment opportunities.The CM also asked officials to integrate the Mir Alam Tank project with the nearby Nehru Zoological Park to offer visitors a combined experience of wildlife, nature, the scenic tank and family entertainment.Officials said the detailed project report for the rejuvenation and development of the tank, its surrounding areas and islands is under preparation.
