New Delhi: AAP Monday announced that its MLAs and functionaries would start an indefinite fast on Oct 15 at the party’s headquarters against alleged irregularities during Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the party would continue to demand the resignation of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.Meanwhile, Delhi Police detained AAP’s Rajya Sabha member, Sanjay Singh, and several other functionaries near Janpath metro station when they were marching towards Jantar Mantar. A confrontation between them started when police stopped the march with barricades and AAP workers tried to breach the cordon.AAP functionaries accused police of manhandling them and raised slogans against central govt. Singh alleged that women protesters were also subjected to mistreatment. The DCP, New Delhi, denied any such allegations.Singh said, “Gyanesh Kumar must resign because he has stolen 13 crore votes. Elections in the country must be conducted using ballot papers, and the process of selecting election commissioners must be made impartial, with govt not having a majority in the selection process.”AAP MLA Gopal Rai said, “We will continue our movement and satyagraha wherever we find space. This movement will continue until SIR is scrapped, Gyanesh Kumar resigns, and free and fair elections are held in the country.”Singh also wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding a special session of Parliament to discuss the alleged deletion of over 13 crore names from electoral rolls in different states during SIR and also the resignation of Kumar.“The large-scale deletion of voters’ names… has raised serious concerns about the integrity, transparency and fairness of our electoral process. Allegations that names have been wrongly deleted on such a massive scale require clarification, accountability and extensive discussion in Parliament,” he wrote.
