Panaji: With no strong systems prevailing in nearby regions, the state received light rainfall in the last 24 hours, as the mercury rose by 3°C above normal to 32.4°C on the weekend. On Friday, it had soared 4°C above normal to 33.4 °C.While the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Panaji, has forecast light to moderate rainfall for the next few days, unusually warm nights have intensified sultry daytime conditions .On Saturday, IMD recorded a minimum temperature of 27. 1°C, nearly 3°C above normal. For two days, it has been hovering around 27°C.The weather conditions in the last couple of days have been similar to the oppressive heat during the pre-monsoon phase in May. The mercury had soared to 36°C during the day and 28°C during the night for eight days of the month.In the port town of Mormugao, the mercury rose even higher to 27.6 °C on the weekend.In the last 24 hours, IMD recorded widespread light rain in many parts of Goa. The highest was 11.2m in Sanguem while Quepem recorded 10.8mm, Valpoi 9.6mm, Mormugao 6mm, Margao and Dabolim 3.5mm each, Dharbandonar 3.2mm, Old Goa 2.5mm and other centres just above 1mm.The seasonal total has so far reached 906.3mm while the normal value should be 1288.3mm, a deficit of 29.6%.Indian national centre for ocean information services (INCOIS) has issued a high-wave warning for coastal areas up to 75 km off the Goa coast.
