Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad City Unity Committee met on Tuesday under mayor Hitesh Barot to discuss the successful organisation of the 149th Lord Jagannathji rath yatra on July 16.It was decided to ensure there are no DJ trucks, sound systems or loud noises when elephants pass by. The meeting, held at Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) headquarters in Danapith, was attended by police officers and officials from various civic departments, the Jagannath Temple mahant, members of the City Unity Committee, and community leaders. The meeting emphasised on more effective coordination between departments so peace and communal harmony are maintained, and the procession reaches the temple on time.The mayor said, “The rath yatra of Lord Jagannathji is a symbol of faith and unity. Based on the suggestions received from the City Unity Committee and the Jagannath Temple Trust, AMC take all necessary measures.” He added that an on-site inspection of various arrangements will be carried out.The issues discussed include special traffic arrangements in Jamalpur, water supply for more than 101 trucks, removal of dilapidated buildings, continuous cleaning, deployment of the fire brigade, keeping CCTV cameras along the route operational and ID cards to khalasis. Emphasis was laid cleaning catchpits and drains on time.
