Gurgaon: MCG on Tuesday set up a dedicated control room at its Sector 34 office to monitor streetlights on the city’s main roads and ensure that non-functional lights are reported for timely repairs.The control room will operate during the night, with 17 MCG employees assigned to inspect streetlights along the main roads. The field teams will regularly identify non-functional lights and relay details to the control room.Three employees have been deployed at the control room to compile reports received from the field teams and inform the agencies responsible for repair and rectification work. An MCG junior engineer will supervise the control room on a rotational basis.“The new arrangement is intended to create a more structured system for monitoring streetlights on major roads, identifying faults and ensuring that information about defective lights reaches the responsible agency without delay,” MCG executive engineer Sachin Yadav said.He said the system would strengthen night-time monitoring and improve oversight of faults affecting lighting on the city’s main roads.MCG had earlier launched a campaign in April to cover the electrical panels of streetlights ahead of the monsoon to prevent mishaps.Streetlights in sectors 1 to 57 fall under MCG, while those in sectors 58 to 67 and 81 to 115 are maintained by HSVP, and those in sectors 68 to 80 by GMDA. MCG has around 1.5 lakh streetlights in sectors 1 to 57, which will be monitored through the new control room.GMDA has around 1,500 streetlights, about half of which are connected to its integrated command and control centre for monitoring. The tendering process to connect the remaining lights is underway. GMDA also maintains additional streetlights installed as part of integrated road beautification projects, including those along MG Road.
